The wait has three stages. The first one is usually the longest.
1. Getting an appointment
You book the interview in the e-konsulat system. How long you wait for a free slot depends on the consulate and can range from a few weeks to many months. New slots appear from time to time, so check the system regularly.
2. Processing
Consulates state that processing should not take longer than two months from the appointment. If documents are missing, the consul will ask you to supply them and the case will take longer.
3. Collection
You collect the Karta in person at the office where you applied. The consulate will tell you when it is ready.
How not to make it longer
- Gather all your ancestors' documents before the appointment, with translations.
- Prepare for the interview. If the consul decides you don't know the language or traditions, you get a refusal and have to start again.
- If you live legally in Poland, in certain cases you can apply to the voivode instead. Check whether this applies to you.
